    “The Black Sea region as an influential crossroad between East and West:    A path towards extroversion”

    In its fifth year, the International Black Sea Symposium (IBSS) project builds on the success and positive impact of its previous four editions and brings together the next generation of stakeholders with an interest in the Black Sea area. The 5th International Black Sea Symposium on “The Black Sea region as an influential crossroad between East and West: a path towards extroversion” was held in Athens, Greece, from 2 July to 4 July 2012. The ICBSS welcomed young professionals and international experts, for an intensive course on Black Sea issues.The event’s working language was in English.

    4th International Black Sea Symposium 2011


    “The Black Sea Region in Transition: New Challenges and Concepts”
    Vouliagmeni, Attica, Greece 19 – 23 September 2011


    Building on three years of success, the International Black Sea Symposium (IBSS) project continues in 2011 with the 4th International Black Sea Symposium on “The Black Sea Region in Transition: New Challenges and Concepts”.

    From 19 September to 23 September 2011 the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) welcomed young professionals and international experts in Vouliagmeni, Attica, Greece, for an intensive course on Black Sea issues. The event’s working language was in English.

    Since the 4th International Black Sea Symposium 2011 "The Black Sea Region in Transition: New Challenges and Concepts" has been successfully completed you can also download the Press Release (in English) and see the photos from the event.

    Only the members of the Symposium Group can now download the 4th IBSS Report, the Workshop Report and the Speakers & Participants Presentations.

    3rd Symposium 2010


    “The Black Sea Region in Flux”

    Building on two years of success, the International Black Sea Symposium (IBSS) project continues in 2010 with the 3rd International Black Sea Symposium on “The Black Sea Region in Flux”. From 29 June - 4 July 2010 the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) welcomed young professionals and international experts on the island of Aegina, Greece, for an intensive course on Black Sea issues. The event’s working language was English.

    2nd Symposium 2009


    “The Black Sea Region: the State of Play and the Way Forward”

    After the successful pilot Symposium event in 2008, the 2nd IBSS, incorporating the lessons learnt, was held in Kalymnos, Dodecanese, Greece on 30 June – 5 July 2009 under the title: “The Black Sea Region: the State of Play and the Way Forward”. The 2nd IBSS was implemented in cooperation with numerous partners and sponsors.

    1st Symposium 2008


    “The Wider Black Sea Area in Perspective”


    The International Black Sea Symposium project was launched in 2008 and the first Symposium event entitled “The Wider Black Sea Area in Perspective” took place on the island of Kalymnos, Dodecanese, Greece on 1 - 6 July 2008.

    About the Symposium


    The aim of the Symposium project is to contribute to dialogue, understanding and cooperation in the Black Sea region and beyond. The IBSS does so by bringing together young professionals with a proven interest in the Black Sea region. Each year, selected participants meet with renowned experts for an intensive course focusing on issues concerning the Black Sea region.
