Welcome to the homepage of the International Black Sea Symposium!
The International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS),
in cooperation with numerous partners and sponsors, launched the
International Black Sea Symposium (IBSS) project in 2008. The aim of
the Symposium project is to contribute to dialogue, understanding and
cooperation in the Black Sea region and beyond.
The IBSS does
so by bringing together young professionals with a proven interest in
the Black Sea region. Each year, selected participants meet with
renowned experts for an intensive course focusing on issues concerning
the Black Sea region.
This site has been designed to help you
find out more about the International Black Sea Symposium project
,including information on past and upcoming Symposia.
IN BRIEF
The International Black Sea Symposium project and the annual Symposium events
The
International Black Sea Symposium (IBSS) is a multiannual
project in the framework of which annual Symposia (the Symposium
events) are organised. Each Symposia brings together approx.
40 young professionals and 20 experts during intensive courses focusing
on themes linked to international relations and concerning the Black
Sea region. Topics addressed include issues such as the
role of key stakeholders in the region, protracted conflicts,
energy security, good governance, economic development and EU-Russia
relations. The language of the Symposia is English.
Aside from
the learning experience, the personal and professional network created
amongst the participants and experts is arguably the most important
output of the Symposia. In order to strengthen these contacts,
facilitate keeping in touch and connect alumni from
different years of the Symposia, all persons involved can gain access to the
restricted IBSS alumni area.
