Blast from the Past!
This infographic includes cultural highlights from Georgia. In particular:
Literature
- Ilia Chavchavadze, writer, poet, journalist and public figure who contributed to the protection of Georgian literature.
- Grigol Robakidze, writer and public figure, the first Georgian to be nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Music
- Georgian polyphonic singing, a highly valued part of Georgian culture, included in UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
- Nino Ananiashvili, ballerina and artistic director of the State Ballet of Georgia, described as “one of the twelve greatest ballerinas of all time”.
Cinema
- CinéDOC-Tbilisi - International Documentary Film Festival, the first international documentary film festival in the Caucasus region.
Museum
- Georgian State Museum of Theatre, Music, Cinema and Choreography-Art Palace, the only museum of its kind in the Caucasus region.
Natural/Cultural Monuments
- Vardzia Cave Monastery, Upper Svaneti (inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List of cultural sites) and Martvili Canyon, sites of rich cultural and natural heritage.
Gastronomy
- Khinkali, Pkhali and Tklapi, traditional must-try dishes.
Theatre
- Petre Otskheli, modernist set and costume designer and one of the most important avant-garde artists of his time. The aesthetic value of his drawings made them independent masterpieces of graphic art.
Art
- Tbilisi Digital Space, the first digital art museum in Georgia.
Photography
- Alexandre Roinashvili, the first photographer in Georgia and the founder of Georgian photography.
Film
- “Stumari”, a video awarded at the 2023 edition of the UNWTO Tourism Video Competition.
UNESCO Creative Cities
- Tbilisi, UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts.
Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe
- European Route of Historic Gardens. Georgia has joined this Cultural Route with unique gardens, such as the Tsinandali Estate Garden, the first European-type recreation zone in Georgia and a cultural and intellectual centre of the country.
