Music – Republic of Azerbaijan
In Azerbaijan, folk dances are a symbol of antiquity, transmitted from generation to generation through the centuries.
Azerbaijani folk dances are notable for their vibrant themes, encompassing labour, ceremony, household, sport, and chorus games. They are the expression of the past, present and national traditions of the Azerbaijani people. These dances differ from others by their fast tempo.
Folk dances symbolically express a wide range of emotional themes, from hospitality and generosity to friendship and simple joie de vivre.
The narrative of the awakening of spring and feelings of love is depicted through the graceful movements of the girls as they dance, while other dances are simply happy and joyful.
