
Participation of the ICBSS at the “SEA (CI)-TIES: Strengthening Economic Alliances in the wider Black Sea region, Through International Engagement and Shipping" hybrid event

On 21 October 2025, ICBSS Research and Policy Development Manager, Ms. Georgia CHANTZI, participated as speaker at the "SEA (CI)-TIES: Strengthening Economic Alliances in the wider Black Sea region, Through International Engagement and Shipping" hybrid event, in the framework of the European Maritime Day (EMD) in My Country.
The event, organised by the University of the Aegean (Greece), under the coordination of Dr. Maria LEKAKOU, Professor in Maritime Economics, Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, School of Business, was hosted at the Koraes Library in Chios, Greece.
The meeting welcomed a wide range of participants, including academics, researchers, politicians and students, who exchanged views on the crucial role of maritime transport in promoting economic development and global trade, while exploring opportunities for collaboration across different sectors.
During her speech, Ms. Chantzi presented “Blue economy as a driver for development and innovation for coastal communities” and highlighted good practices from the wider Black Sea region, with particular references to the TOURAL and BRIDGE-BS projects, in which ICBSS is a partner.
Discussions focused on the current landscape within the European Union and the rapidly evolving global trends, highlighting both challenges and opportunities for the shipping industry and port cities. Participants also explored potential pathways for future synergies through international cooperation frameworks.
The ICBSS expresses its sincere appreciation to Mr. Stavros Kalognomos, PhD Candidate at the University of the Aegean, for the kind invitation and the opportunity to contribute to the discussion on the Βlue Εconomy as a pivotal driver for development.
