
Participation of ICBSS at the BRIDGE Black Sea Final Conference

On 25 November 2025, the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) joined the BRIDGE Black Sea Final Conference, held in Brussels, Belgium. The event was organised by the BRIDGE-BS consortium, coordinated by METU-IMS.
On the occasion of the completion of the BRIDGE-BS project (June 2021 – November 2025), the event gathered more than 100 online and onsite stakeholders to exchange on key achievements and future joint action to advance a sustainable and resilient blue economy in the Black Sea. Discussions highlighted the project’s scientific, technological, and societal contributions, showcasing its core results and complementary outputs that further strengthen scientific understanding and policy support.
The final event marked also the official launch of the BRIDGE-BS Policy Brief "Advancing Black Sea Research and Innovation for a Sustainable Blue Economy". As one of the project’s key outputs, the Policy Brief offers recommendations for policymakers, research institutions, and operational services based on the scientific knowledge and research generated throughout the project. The Policy Brief is available in English, Bulgarian, Georgian, Romanian, Turkish, and Ukrainian.
On behalf of ICBSS, leader of WP8 on science-policy dialogue for a sustainable Blue Economy, Ms. Georgia Chantzi, Research and Policy Development Manager, moderated the panel: “What’s next for the Black Sea?”, which brought together high-level representatives from regional and European initiatives to exchange on the capitalisation of the BRIDGE-BS results and next steps for cooperation in the Black Sea.
In the sidelines, ICBSS Director General, Mr. Georgios Mitrakos held bilateral meetings with EU officials to discuss regional cooperation in the Black Sea, and the new EU strategy for the Black Sea.
This visit underscores ICBSS’s commitment to regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and dialogue in support of sustainable development and integration in the Black Sea region and beyond.
