Blast from the Past – Republic of Moldova
This infographic includes cultural highlights from the Republic of Moldova. In particular:
Music
- Maria Bieșu, opera singer and Prima Donna of the National Opera, awarded as one of the greatest voices in the world.
- Mărțișor Music Festival, an event where the best concert halls from Chisinau and abroad celebrate the beginning of spring.
Cinema
- CRONOGRAF Festival, the country's first international documentary film festival.
- “Soroca's Great Theater”, award-winning documentary at the ADAMI Media Prize for Cultural Diversity in Eastern Europe.
Museum
- National Museum of History, with more than 350,000 cultural artefacts from prehistoric times to the present day.
- National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, the oldest museum in the country.
Natural/Cultural Monuments
- Orheiul Vechi and Valea Morilor Park, sites of rich cultural and natural heritage.
Gastronomy
- Zeama and Sfințișori, traditional must-try dishes.
Painting
- Grégoire Michonze, landscape and figurative painter.
- Mihai Grecu, one of the country's most important painters and co-founder of the National School of Painting.
- Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, painter, considered the most important woman in the field of fine arts in the Republic of Moldova.
Theatre
- Eugène Ionesco National Theatre, the country's best avant-garde theatre, named after the famous playwright.
Sculpture
- Alexandru Plamădeală, the first artist to leave his mark on the country's sculpture society.
- Valéria Suruceanu, museologist and conservator, received the Europa Nostra Medal for her dedication to the sculpture collection of the National Art Museum.
Customs and Traditions
- Traditional wall-carpet craftsmanship in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, a symbol of craftsmanship developed over the years and included in UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Photography
- Zaharia Cușnir, photographer whose collection of 4,000 old negatives was discovered in an abandoned attic in 2016, revealing his work.
City
- Chisinau, including architectural gems and large parks with over 23 lakes.
Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe
- Iter Vitis Route. The Republic of Moldova has joined this Cultural Route with itineraries that represent its rich winemaking heritage. This heritage includes the Castel Mimi Winery, considered one of the 15 most beautiful wineries in the world.
