The 7^th Edition of the BSEC Month of Culture has just been launched!

During this Month of Culture, apart from other cultural highlights of the 13 BSEC member states, we are going to pay special attention to cities which place their cultural/natural heritage at the heart of sustainable urban development, while cooperating with other cities at international level.

So, let’s start our month-long cultural journey, dedicating the first day to Türkiye, host country of the BSEC Chairmanship-in-Office for the second semester 2023.

Afyonkarahisar is included in UNESCO Creative Cities Network for Gastronomy (2019)!

On the intersection of main highways linking many major cities, Afyonkarahisar is recognized for its culinary expertise, in particular its delight Turkish clotted cream. With animal husbandry also being at the core of local economy, charcuterie is a key feature within the city’s gastronomy culture.

As gastronomy is a significant part of everyday life in Afyonkarahisar, special dishes are often prepared for social events, e.g. weddings and religious ceremonies. In addition, many festivals, such as the Gastro Afyon Festival and the Local Flavours Festival, take place attracting both tourists and international chefs, showcasing regional delicacies and hosting cooking workshops.

As a Creative City of Gastronomy, and in compliance with the common objective towards which the Network works -making creativity a lever for urban development and conceiving new solutions to tackle common challenges-, Afyonkarahisar envisages sharing experiences and best practices to broaden opportunities for creators and professionals in the wider region, creating spaces for exhibitions, such as a Gastronomy Museum, developing policies for green solutions about energy and food waste reduction, as well as strengthening cooperation with other Creative cities.
