What do you know about the art of lamp making?
Andrei Dzyuba is a talented lamp maker. He had followed a legal career path when, in 2003, he found a website of a studio producing Tiffany lampshades and was immediately inspired by the beauty of stained glass. It took him three years of diligent learning to reach a level of craftsmanship that allowed him to create his first lampshade. Many years later, his work travels the world.
As Andrei Dzyuba explains, he draws inspiration from nature, art and the works of masters, such as Louis Comfort Tiffany (after whom the Tiffany technique is named), John La Farge and René Lalique.
The lamp maker works with a variety of techniques, including the classic method using leaded stained glass, fusing, and the Tiffany method. The Tiffany method is his favourite because it uses copper foil wrapping instead of cumbersome lead panels, which is great for working on small details.
Bonus Trivia!
- Most Tiffany lamps have a floral theme. For this reason, Dzyuba has collected a library of botanical books and albums for inspiration.
- How long does it take to make a beautiful lamp? Dzyuba says it takes him approximately 20 days to make one lampshade.
