In 2024, cinema-lovers all around the world celebrate the 100^th birth anniversary of Sergei Parajanov, one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20^th century. This anniversary is included on UNESCO Calendar of Anniversaries of Eminent Personalities and Important Events for the 2024-2025 cycle.

Sergei Parajanov is regarded as one of the most innovative film directors, using bold colours and sounds to bring folk art, stories and traditions to life. His eccentric style has inspired not only international cinema, but also the music and fashion industries.

Filmmakers, such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Federico Fellini and Martin Scorsese, have expressed their admiration for Parajanov, whose influence on popular culture remains evident to this day.

To commemorate Parajanov’s jubilee, two consecutive cultural activities will take place in Athens, Greece, on 6 November 2024.

In particular, the Studio New Star Art Cinema will host the following events:

• Concert by the Children’s Folk Ensemble Sagalobeli, performing Georgian polyphonic singing (19:00 EET).
• Screening of the film “The Legend of Suram Fortress” (20:30 EET). The film won the Best Innovative Film Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 1987.
