9th BSEC Month of Culture
1-30 November 2025
Cultural Heritage – Hellenic Republic
Today, we invite you to join us on a cultural walk of Athens, taking us back to the centuries.
On 27 September 2025, the Cultural Association of Plato's Academy, “HEKADEMEIA”, organised the sixth Cultural Walk from Plato's Academy to the Acropolis Hill.
The route of the Cultural Walk follows that of the Lampadedromia, the torch relay race of the seventh day of the Panathenaea, which took place in ancient Athens and was held in honour of Athena, the city's patron goddess. The route passes through Plato's Academy, the Kerameikos area, and two of the most beautiful, paved promenades of Athens, Apostolou Pavlou and Dionysiou Areopagitou Streets.
The Cultural Walk is led by the “Priestesses of Plato's Academy”. These women are attired in symbolic ancient Greek attire and represent the history and culture of Plato's Academy.
The athletes of Lampadedromia follow, holding unlit torches and wearing T-shirts bearing the names of the ten ancient tribes of Athens. The next group to be represented are citizens and members of cultural and athletic associations, who are holding an olive branch in their hands.
