Mentor Shipwreck (video)
In 1802, the brig ‘’Mentor’’ sank near the port of Avlaimonas in the bay of Agios Nikolaos, south-east of the island of Kythera. The ship had sailed with the aim of transporting to England via Malta some of the ancient objects that Lord Elgin's team had removed from various buildings in the Acropolis and Athens, including the Parthenon.
