Vranje is included in UNESCO Creative Cities Network for Music (2020)!

Vranje, the capital of Pcinja district in southern Serbia, is the birthplace of the Vranje song, entitled "Vranjska gradska pesma", which has been included on the list of intangible cultural heritage of the country.

In this city, music is a means of communication and reflects the deep sensitivity, feelings and temperament of its people. Moreover, locals cherish both traditional and classical music.

And what about its musical celebrations?

In Vranje, the most famous musical event is the Piano Summer Festival, which welcomes annually classical musicians coming from all over the world to share their passion for both modern and traditional classical music.

In addition to this, every May, the city hosts Vranje’s Mud Factory festival, dedicated to Serbian heavy metal and putting the city on the map for heavy metal aficionados.   

This Creative City has also promoted its local music sector by advancing its participation in various national events, such as the project "Serbia in the rhythm of Europe" which enables children from primary and secondary schools from the whole country to participate and present their cities in various languages.

As a Creative City of Music, and in compliance with the common objective towards which the Network works -making creativity a lever for urban development and conceiving new solutions to tackle common challenges-, Vranje envisages supporting the organization of relevant activities, hosting international conferences to develop the creative industries, promoting the Network at local, national and international level, as well as collaborating with other Creative Cities.

Dive into this world of music by exploring the rhythms of the brass orchestra ‘’Vranjski Biseri’’ (‘’Pearls of Vranje’’). The band comes from the city of Vranje and has won the ‘’Best Brass Band’’ award in Guca Trumpet Festival, considered the largest trumpet festival worldwide.
