7th BSEC Month of Culture
1-30 November 2023
Yerevan - Republic of Armenia
Yerevan constitutes a cultural center with rich documentary and literary heritage. In this framework, the Matenadaran plays an important role as it is one the largest and most valuable manuscript repositories in the world and the largest in Armenia.
So, as we talk about manuscripts and books, did you know that, in 2012, Yerevan was selected as the World Book Capital by UNESCO, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of "Armenian Printing"?
As part of the city’s efforts to promote books, reading and its rich literary history, special attention was paid to “the role of children and young adults in building knowledgeable societies”. Another priority of the Yerevan World book Capital was to explore new technologies, ideas and innovations. Conferences, symposiums, and exhibitions were organized to discuss issues related to copyright, translation, internationally distinguished works of literature etc. In addition, other art forms were also presented during exhibitions, seminars, and film premieres.
