The Future of Economic Cooperation in the Black Sea. What’s Next?
Paper by ICBSS | April 2024
The new paper "The Future of Economic Cooperation in the Black Sea. What’s Next?" by ICBSS Director General, Mr. Georgios Mitrakos, argues that the regional situation in the Black Sea, creates momentum for other regional actors, like the BSEC Organisation, to rise up to the occasion and assume a more active role within the region. BSEC’S new operational paradigm should be less about politics, more about supporting human development and the wellbeing of the people of the BSEC region.
The paper is included in the recent collective report, titled "From Synergy to Strategy in the Black Sea Region. Assessing Opportunities and Challenges", published by the Institutul European din România - European Institute of Romania.
The paper compiles perspectives from 38 experts, analysts, and former officials from Austria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Türkiye, Ukraine, Sweden, Great Britain and the United States on issues such as political dynamics, the economic dimension (e.g., development of transport routes or digitalisation), security and regional cooperation in a multilateral framework.
