1-30 November 2021
Painting - Moldova
Last stop on our fascinating month-long cultural journey is Moldova, host country of the BSEC Chairmanship-in-Office for the first semester 2022.
So, we complete the 5th Edition of the BSEC Month of Culture with the artist Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, who was born in 1920 and died on November 1, 2021 at the age of 101. She is considered to be the most important woman in the field of Fine Arts in Moldova and belongs to the generation of Moldovan Visual Artists that emerged in Romania’s cultural milieu between the two World Wars. ‘’Girl by the Window’’ was her first known painting, while the works ‘’Village Dance’’ and ‘’Ștefan cel Mare after the Războieni Battle’’ established her as a master of composition and color. Moreover, Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu took part in many exhibitions and received several distinctions, such as the Republic of Moldova National Award for Literature, Art and Architecture, and the Order of the Republic, Moldova’s highest civilian honor.
