Cultural Routes-European Mozart Ways
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most influential figures of all times. European Mozart Ways (2004) is the Cultural Route which promotes knowledge on this unique musician, spanning 10 countries and over 200 sites. Palaces and piazzas, pleasure gardens, inns and hotels, concert halls and opera houses, cities, churches and landscapes visited by the musician are included to this CoE Route.
But how Mozart is connected to the BSEC region?
European Mozart Ways host two BSEC countries: Greece and Ukraine.
- Franz Xaver Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus’ youngest son, is one of the first music educators who founded the first professional music community in Lviv transforming the artistic environment of the Ukrainian city. LvivMozArt is an international festival of classical music inspired by him.
- The Greek Mozart Society was founded by Loris Margaritis around 1920 in Thessaloniki. Its goal is the cultivation and dissemination of Mozart's musical heritage through a variety of activities.
Mozart’s Journeys
For most of his life, Mozart travelled with the aim of enhancing his education and establishing contacts with other performers and composers. Although he died at the early age of 35, Mozart was on tour for over 10 years. This great musician spent one third of his life on journeys and can be described as the first truly European personality, in and beyond the field of music.
Mozart’s journeys (from 1762 to 1791) were documented on the basis of his correspondence and other authentic documents. The Mozart family letters are the most extensive and richly detailed correspondence of any composer of the 18th century or earlier and a fundamental source of information concerning daily life at the time and Mozart's own biography.
BONUS!
You can discover the composer’s travels through this digital touring exhibition, entitled "Mozart's Spirit".
