Within the framework of the Albanian Chairmanship-in-Office of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), BSEC PERMIS organised the Meeting of the BSEC Committee of the Senior Officials (CSO) and the 43th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) of the BSEC Member States, that were held online during the period 28 and 30 June 2021. The ICBSS was represented at the Meetings by the ICBSS Director General, Mr. Georgios Mitrakos.

The ICBSS invites you to the Plenary Opening of the Kick-off Meeting for the Horizon 2020-funded BRIDGE-BS (Advancing Black Sea Research and Innovation to Co-Develop Blue Growth within Resilient Ecosystems) Research and Innovation Action on 12 July 2021 at 13:00 CEST. The new ICBSS project involves 33 partners from the Black Sea countries, EU MS and regional organizations, coordinated by METU. ICBSS is the Lead Partner of WP8: Science-based policy making for Blue Growth.

The Regional Essay Competition for the Youth aims to raise awareness and motivate young people in the BSEC Member States to take action against the growing marine pollution challenge in the Black Sea. Apart from fostering a culture of eco-friendly behaviour and environmental consciousness in younger age groups, the initiative aspires to motivate the wider society to learn from its youngsters in adopting sustainable practices for reducing marine litter and marine pollution.

The International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) co-organised together with the Balkan and Black Sea Commission (BBSC) of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) which holds the secretariat of the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas (SEArica) Intergroup, the online Conference entitled “Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Danube and the Black Sea region: views for building forward better”, on Thursday 22 April 2021.

The International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) successfully hosted its 11th International Black Sea Symposium, on“A collective recovery for the Black Sea Region in the post-covid era”, on 20 April 2021.

An online panel discussion will take place on Tuesday 3 June, at 15.00 hours Istanbul time (+3GMT), in order to better publicize and present the BBSEA project, but also to exchange views on the overalladvancement of Blue Economy in the Black Sea region, on the implementation of the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea (CMA) and on the necessity for more regional infrastructure investments in sectors envisaged by the various CMA goals, like marine pollution, energy, tourism and culture.

The International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) is currently looking to recruit a Junior Project Manager with experience in maritime affairs and blue economy, to support the implementation of ICBSS’ new projects co-funded under ENI/2020/421-957 in the context of the Action “Support to the Implementation of the Eastern Partnership Multilateral Dimension, Northern Dimension and the Black Sea Synergy - BSEC PERMIS”.

On 1 April 2021, the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) hosted online the official kick-off meeting of the Project “BLACK SEA CRUISE – Sustainable Small-scale Cruising/Yachting”.

Registration is open for the 11th IBSS on “A collective recovery for the Black Sea Region in the post-covid era”, to be held on Tuesday 20 April 2021 (10:00-14:30 Athens time).

Fishing and aquaculture are among the hardest hit sectors since the COVID-19 outbreak, as demand for fisheries and seafood has been experiencing a dramatic downturn, due to preventative measures against the pandemic. The online conference will address the challenges of the fisheries sector related to the pandemic, such as disruptions in supply chains for fish and aquatic foods caused by disturbances of transportation, trade, and labour, and will discuss opportunities and next steps for the post-COVID-19 era.
